Life Legacy


Neal Arlan Patterson, 61, of Chadron, died February 3, 2007, at the Chadron Community Hospital. At his request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2007, at 4:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church in Chadron, with Father Todd Sermon officiating. Inurnment will be in the columbarium at Grace Episcopal Church. Memorials have been established for the Chadron Rescue Unit and the Grace Episcopal Church memorial fund, and may be sent to the First National Bank of Chadron, P.O. Box 1351, Chadron, Nebraska 69337.

Neal was born June 17, 1945, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the son of Lannon Pat and Marian Patterson. He spent his childhood years in Scottsbluff, where he graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1962. After high school, he worked on the Minuteman Missile sites in Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming and then later owned and operated the Ullr Inn in Breckenridge, Colorado, until he was called to military duty. He then served in the National Guard for six years, during which time he was united in marriage to Colleen Rapp on August 13, 1967, in Chadron.

After marriage, he worked for Hawkins Construction company out of Omaha, as superintendent in Grand Island . He later moved back to Chadron, where he established Good Karma Looms in 1970. After making looms and spinning wheels for several years at 1st and Bordeaux in Chadron, he established Woodland Construction, which he owned and operated with high integrity until the time of his death. As owner of Woodland Construction, he designed and built many buildings and homes around the Chadron area with quality workmanship and touched many lives with his generosity and kindness.

Neal was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church of Chadron, where he served as junior warden and member of the vestry, past member of the Chadron Arts Center Board, past member of the Planning Commission, past member of the Chadron Housing Authority, and a Boy Scout leader. He loved life and was a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend, and enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially at his farm southwest of Crawford, Nebraska.

Neal is survived by his wife Colleen of Chadron; daughter Shelley Graves and husband, Mark of Chadron; son, Jereme Patterson and friend, Sarah Brueckner of Chadron; sister Sheryll Patterson-Black and husband Gene, of Lakewood, Colorado; granddaughter, Aspen Graves of Chadron; a niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lannon, and mother, Marian Patterson.
